Flowers: Flower head is erect and spike-like, 1-2cm long and bearing 4-12 plump spikelets.

Wide range of habitats, open or sparsely treed, in damp situations or dry situations prone to winter inundation, from lowland areas to 200m altitude. King Island, north-east, Midlands, east coast and west coast.
