Form Description: Tiny, slender, ephemeral herb with a rigid, erect, thread-like stem, scattered with hairs, and few, slightly spoon-shaped leaves arranged in a basal rosette.

Height (m): 0.015 – 0.035

Flowers: White, solitary, and borne at the top of the stems.

Fruit: Capsule – 1.5-2mm in diameter, nearly spherical. Turn from green to tan-brown, and become brittle as they ripen. Seeds turn from green to red-orange at maturity. Hundreds of fine seed per fruiting stem.

In hollows in sandy heath which retain water after rain, in the north and north-east.

General Notes

Rare ephemeral annual plant. Seeds tend to ripen progressively along the flower stem. This species can be distinguished from the other short-lived Stylidium species by its spherical, rather than linear, capsules.
