Seed Information

Seed Collection

Seed is released within 3-14 days of seed maturity. Cut the fruiting stems and leave to dry in a warm place. Rub over a fine wire screen to remove seed.

Seed Treatment Method

Smoke Smoke treatment improves germination in some species. Smokey products, e.g. smokey vermiculite, can be purchased and applied to the sown seed, or sown seeds can be treated directly with smoke from a source such as a drum with a fire and hose.

Seed Treatment Notes

A combination of heat and smoke may increase germination. Seeds require cool and dark conditions to germinate.

Germination Time

Several months

Cutting & Division Information

Can be propagated from soft tip cuttings. Can be struck in a glass jar of water, placed in a well-lit position. Change the water once a week. Take care when potting out, as formed roots tend to be soft. Keep the potted plants in the shade for 3-4 weeks before planting out.
