Form Description: Perennial rosette herb with a taproot. Leaves 2.5-20cm long, and 1-3cm wide.

Flowers: 12-35 flowers with hairy stalks produced on erect, stout flower stems. Petals white and less than 1mm long, anthers crimson.

Fruit: Schizocarp – 3.5-6cm long.

Habitat Notes

Widespread from coastal heaths to alpine and sub-alpine grassland.

General Notes

From the same family as parsley, fennel, dill, coriander, cumin and caraway. Has a thick taproot which can be eaten like parsnip. Edible – the aromatic leaves and seeds may be used for flavouring food.
