Seed Information
Seed Collection
Seed heads are open and branched and contain numerous small seeds. Harvest by cutting stalks with secateurs. If seed drops from seed head when head is gently rubbed between fingers, the seed is ripe. Sieve to clean.
Seed Treatment Method
Storage Stratification at 3-5°C for up to 3 months may improve results. Place seed in a damp medium, lightly covered. Put moist seeds in a plastic bag and store in the fridge. , Surface Sow Sow seed finely on the surface of the potting mix and cover with just enough mix to hold the seed on the surface when watered.
Seed Storage Life
2-3 years
Seed Treatment Notes
Seed has a 2-3 month after-ripening period. Usually good levels of germination follow storage. Seed should be lightly covered as light is needed for germination. Good for direct seeding in pots (2-3 seeds per pot) and in the fields.
Cutting & Division Information
Can be propagated by division of rhizomes.
