Form Description: Widely spreading shrub with dull dark green, very thick, somewhat fleshy phyllodes which are wrinkled when dry. Branchlets are spiny and have strong ridges.

Height (m): 1 – 2

Flowers: Yellow, with deep lobes, borne in 3+ flowered-umbels, 1 or 2 umbels per leaf axil.

Fruit: Seed pod – seeds are orange-brown to tan with black mottling, ellipsoid and 2.5-3mm long. The aril is about 1.5mm long.

Sandy habitats in Eastern Tasmania and King Island.

General Notes

Closely related to Daviesia ulicifolia, but a more rigid, robust and prickly plant with broader leaves.

Seed Treatment Method

Hot Water Hot water is used to soften the hard seed case of some species. This replicates the weathering process. Pour hot (not boiling) water over the seeds and allow them to soak for 4-12 hours.

Hot water treatment. Some species of Daviesia establish by direct seeding. Pods may need to be crushed to extract seed.
