Seed Information

Seed Collection

Can be propagated from seed, although this species produces little fertile seed because of a fungus that kills immature seed. Seed is released within 3-14 days of seed maturity.

Seed Treatment Method

Bog Method The seeds of many wetland species need to be kept wet to germinate. Punch a hole in the side of a recycled polyfoam box so that it holds water to the required depth. Sit the tubes in the box to germinate. Once germinated, punch holes in the bottom of the box to allow drainage.

Seed Storage Life

Up to 3 years

Seed Treatment Notes

Surface sow, or cover lightly. Fresh seed germinates easily in a warm situation. Smoke treatment or leaching may improve results. May be successful in direct seeding.

Germination Time

1 month

Cutting & Division Information

Can be grown by division, although the plants take a while to recover when divided. Divide and replant in autumn. Cut back old leaves in late autumn to allow for new flowers and leaves.
