Habitat Notes
Common in rocky places, especially moss-covered rocky ledges liable to dry out in summer. Also on sand dunes. Often found growing in a group of similar plants. Common in damp sandy soils under light forest cover, sea level to about 250m; north-west, north-east, Midlands and east coast.

Standard Scatter seed thinly on to damp potting mix. Hold seed in place by covering with more potting mix to approximately the depth of the seed size.

Seed has 2-3 months dormancy but gives good results after this. May be useful for direct seeding. Sow in autumn. For some species seed over 12 months old may require stratification for 6-7 weeks. Temperature may be critical to germination i.e.. not above 18°C.
